I am going to be 16 weeks in a couple of days.. when should i start shopping for baby… i mean just the essentials.. like… crip, car seat, bottles ect… my doctor classified me as high risk..so i probably won’t go full term. so should i get ready early. if so what should i buy?
i mean crib… not crip..
I started pretty much as soon as I found out getting the Big ticket items like the furniture, stroller, carseat, etc. Had whole room finished when I was around 6 months and i am glad I got everything done early because those last months are horrible. I bought clothes throughout….all diff sizes and seasons. I reccomend not buying a lot of small size diapers and clothes…my son was almost 10 pounds so he went straight into size 1 diapers and 3 month clothes. We ordered our furnitire so it took like 2 weeks to get here and assembly is no fun! After we had all that set up I went looking for the bedding for it. Once I had bedding picked out went to pick out matching wall hangings, curtains, and rocker. Just do one or two things a week. It also helps pass the time…least it did for me because I did not work during pregnancy. Get the big things done and then concentrate on the smaller things like diaper supply, wipes, clothes, socks, hats, bottles, and other acessories. Def get a bouncy seat they are heaven! Good Luck and Best Wishes!
Oh by the way…it helps to go and do a registry even if you are not having a shower…this way once you are able or have money that week to get something you have like a personal check list of your items already picked out. Thats what we did.
most of my large items I did as gender friendly this way I can use them again if I have either sex. Also for clothes if you have a Carter’s store near you (can check at www.carters.com) then their clothes if you save reciept will take clothes back no matter how long you have had them for full refund and even if you have tag on but no reciept they will still take them back.
at 5 months…

Wait until after the baby shower for the big stuff. Have your shower early if you need to, but many people will buy you a lot of the more expensive things. Also, after the shower, you will have a better idea on more things that you will need.
Diapers and wipes never go out of style when you have a baby, so stock up if you want.

I am 11 weeks and I have started buying diapers and formula. I dont plan on buying the "essentials" that you listed until I get to atleast 20 weeks +.
References :
just buy what you need, crib car seat, blankets, onsies and diapers at about 20-25 weeks. you should be fine (and flooded with gifts once the baby comes). early on you dont need swings and baby tubs and all that crap.

I waited until after my baby shower, but got a few essentials incase he came too early. Like onsies, diapers, blankets, soap etc.
At my baby shower I got everything I needed except the crib, but then I got $300 in gift cards and used that to get my crib.

I was classicfied as high risk because I was with twins.. but I didn’t buy anything, I bought the crib when they were in the hospital this was the day before they were to come home. But I would suggest getting registrys together cuz people will ask you what you need/ and or want! so I would hold off on that cuz you might have somebody who wants to get that for you (ie for the baby shower) and then you can buy other things you need.

Start shopping as soon as you know the gender!!

Well its always good to do it before your in a rush, if you have the energy right now it would be best to get the main things like a crib, car seat, bottles, pacifiers, formula, diapers, baby wipes, shampoo, baby blankets, socks, and whatever else you think you might need, You will probably be glad you got them ahead of time.
Good Luck

If you are high risk, why not schedule your baby showers early? I bought a few outfits when we found out it was a girl, but waited until after our showers to get the essentials. We were lucky enough to get mostly everything from the showers. If you arent going to have a baby shower, then make sure you have atleast the following: crib, carseat, diapers/wipes, a few outfits, especially onesies, receiving blankets for nighttime, burp cloths, pacifiers, bottles or a pump atleast if you are going to breastfeed, and a bassinet if you want your baby to sleep in the same room with you. We got alot of our stuff from walmart( they have a great nursery in a box deal for under $300 and a stroller/carseat combo for under $150). Also, ask your doctor when he might want to deliver your baby so you can get a timeline on when to have everything ready. I would say atleast by 30 weeks you should have the essentials. Good luck and congrats on your baby!

Once you find out the sex of baby make sure you have the carseat, at least a pack or two of diapers and wipes, some blankets, onesies, infant tylenol, and baby carrier/sling-at that’s just to start you off. Other people will probably get you lots of other things for baby, but these things are a must.

When you know the gender of the baby, or at least have decided what kind of things you’d like to see in the baby’s room, crib or whatnot.
It never hurts to get things secondhand, or ask for hand-me-downs from relatives and friends whose babies aren’t babies anymore. It will save you a LOT of money.

Do it when ever you can. Crib and car seat are the big ones. These are the things that you really need. Are you going to have a baby shower? then you can ask for other things lke bottles, clothing, etc. Congrats on your pregnancy. Hope that all is well.

Since you are high risk it is always best to wait for the second trimester , maybe your sixth month and this way your baby showers are coming up and you have a better idea of what you need. Good Luck!

since your high risk you should do it now. buy the things you know you’ll really need. bottles and such. you have to be prepared. you especially since you are high risk. and if you don’t know the sex yet which you probably don’t since your not too far along. you can get things that are unisex. and in colors such as yellow, green or white. buy socks and undershirts because you’ll never have enough of those. and blankets especially since it’ll probably still be cold when you have your child. but congrats your pregnancy. please do be safe and take care.

most of your needs come in with a baby shower….so , wait and see what you need after that…..you also want to know the gender of your baby in order to buy your needs….and in case you don’t have a baby shower than i would suggest to buy the crib and stack up on pampers…cause it seems that pampers are the most important essentials and everybody seem to miss them….(expensive too),,,,"bless you and your child"

i had a high risk pregnancy too. definitely buy your crib/bassinet and car seat first by 7.5 months, or 7 just to be on the safe side. some preemie clothes but leave the tags on and save the receipts so you can return them if you do go to full term. i think going to the store of your choice and registering for things you really want will help. i was really itchy to go out and buy things early on in the pregnancy and although i was on bedrest i’d go on the target and babies r us websites to check out all the cute stuff and read up on reviews on products. i think saving up money is a real important thing. stocking up on diapers and wipes is only a good idea if you have the storage for all that stuff. in my opinion you should buy newborn and size 1 diapers as needed bc your baby will grow so quick… buying those super duper mega packs of diapers may just go to waste. AND make sure you sign up on baby websites so you can start collecting coupons for formula, diapers and other necessities.

If you are high risk, the idea is take it easy
. Research online, call up your friends who just had babies and get an understanding of which store stocks the brand and style of products you like more.
Try to get stuff online as most of the websites will have free s&h most probably with baby stuff being above $50 anyway. And return is easy too if it doesnt work out at local stores.
In case you arent big on online shopping, do what I did. Make selective trips. One for crib, car seat, stroller (after research) One for baby safety products, one for itty bitty stuff and rest for whenever you can make it.
But cover it all in 3 or 4 trips that way you arent stressed unnecessarily with constant shopping and assembling when u get home.
Try to get done the most within the next 2 months and take it easy for the last trimester. Good luck.
